Altimetría de La Vuelta´s colossus: El Angliru and other myths

We leave the hotel at sea level and enter the incredible coastal mountain range of the Cuera, sticking to small country roads with very little traffic.

The first climb of the day is the Tornería, (2nd category)5.5 kilometers in length with an average gradient of 7% and a height of 470 meters

We descend and immediately connect with the second climb of the day, the Alto del Torno, 4 kilometers long, with a gradient of 6.5% and a height of 384 meters above sea level.

We travel through favorable terrain for about 20 kilometers to the Royal Site of Covadonga, entrance to the Picos de Europa National Park and the beginning of our most challenging climb to the Lakes of Covadonga: 12.7 kilometers of ascent with an average gradient of 6.7% and a final height of almost 1,200 meters above sea level.

The perfect simbiosis between cycling and nature. A reward for the senses!

Altimetría de La Vuelta´s colossus: El Angliru and other myths

The ride begins in LLanes, heading off towards Posada.  Here we join the river Cabres and then begin the first climb of the day,  the Alto de Ortiguero, a gentle climb to one of the most spectacular landscapes for cycling, the mountain range of the Picos de Europa.  We descend the Estazadas to Arenas de Cabrales where we turn right into the Cares gorge and follow it  all the way to  Poncebos.  We now begin the ascent to Sotres, the climb alternates between harder and softer sections until shortly before arriving in Sotres.   Here the harder ramps begin, culminating in the final 4kms where the gradient never falls below 10%.  We hit the top of the pass at Jitu Escarandi and from here we can enjoy a 7km descent to the villaje of Tresviso.

Day 4 - Oviedo-El Angliru

Here we begin the ascent of El Cordal, 5 km at a 9.1% average slope. Ideal to warm up the legs before the "Colossus". After reaching the top, we will go down about 8 km to La Vega in Riosa and from here we will begin 6 km of continuous climb (average 8% slope) until we reach the Viapará recreational area. From this point 7 km of what for some is the hardest ascent in world cycling, the Angliru peak. You decide how far you accept the challenge.

After descending we come to a false flat section to Campomanes where we turn off and head to the first foot hills of the wonderful climb to La Cubilla,  28 kilometers of pure cycling in the middle of the Natural Park of Las Ubiñas-La Mesa.

Day 6 - Oviedo-Les Praeres

Opinions and comments

For us, going to Los Lagos de Covadonga was the goal. Along the way, we also ended up enjoying the coast of Llanes. We have both discovered a región to which we will certainly return with Bike Paradise.

Giuseppe y Paola, Bergamo (Italy)

With Bike Paradise I have climbed and enjoyed legendary mountain passes that I did not know. They knew how to make the experience easy and pleasant.
